“5G Ultra Capacity” is the abbreviation for “5G Ultra Capacity.”
This icon shows that you’re connecting to a 5G network, and it’ll only appear on iPhones or Android phones that support the technology. (As of early 2022, only the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 enable 5G.)
When you’re linked to T-“Ultra Mobile’s Capacity” 5G network, this icon will appear. The icon first appeared on iPhones in mid-September 2021, and it is now available on select Android devices as well.

What Is 5G Ultra Capacity, and How Does It Work?
5G is more difficult than it appears, as different varieties of 5G provide varying speeds. T-5G Mobile’s network is divided into two categories. “5G Extended Range” is a version of 5G that will cover much of the country, including many less developed rural areas, and will be roughly as fast as 4G LTE.
The faster 5G, known as “5G Ultra Capacity,” offers speeds that are quicker than 4G LTE. When you’re connected to T-superior, Mobile’s faster 5G network, you’ll notice a 5G UC icon to distinguish between the two.
You’ll only see a normal 5G indicator if you’re linked to T-slower Mobile’s “Extended Range” 5G network. 5G UC, in technical terms, means you’re linked to either mid-band or millimeter wave (mmWave) 5G. You’re probably on T-mid-band Mobile’s 5G network, which makes up the majority of the company’s speedier 5G network.
You’re using low-band 5G if you see the normal “5G” logo without a UC. On T-Coverage Mobile’s Map page, you can see where the 5G UC network is available. The iPhone or Android phone what does on “5G UC” network is shown dark magenta on the map, which distinguishes between the two forms of 5G.
What About Android Phones and Other Cellular Carriers?
The 5G UC logo will only appear on iPhones linked to T-network Mobile’s starting in September 2021. If you’re on another cellular carrier than AT&T or Verizon and have an iPhone 12 or iPhone 13 (or an iPhone 12 Pro or iPhone 13 Pro), you won’t see the 5G UC logo.
What Do the Terms “5G+,” “5G UW,” and “5G E” Indicate?
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen letters in a 5G logo. Both “5G+” and “5G UW,” like “5G UC,” denote faster 5G than traditional low-band networks with large ranges. When your iPhone is linked to AT&T’s 5G millimeter wave network, the “5G+” status icon appears.
Your iPhone is connected to Verizon’s Ultra Wideband 5G network, as shown by the “5G UW” status icon. There’s also AT&T’s 5G E network, which is a marketing term for the company’s previous 4G LTE network. The reality is that 5G E was not true 5G.
Sprint filed a lawsuit against AT&T in 2019, accusing the firm of deceiving customers. Good, rapid 5G signals are indicated by 5G UC, 5G+, and 5G UW. (This is in contrast to 5G E, which was worse than seeing a 5G icon but not being able to use it.)

Will These Logos Be Seen Outside of the United States?
Apple’s official support website covers words like 5G UC, 5G+, and 5G UW without mentioning specific carriers, therefore these logos may appear on other cellular providers outside of the United States. However, just because you see a 5G logo doesn’t mean you’re on the slower low-band 5G network. It’s possible that your cellular carrier doesn’t display logos like that.
